John Ripley has worked in the aerospace industry for over 35 years. History and architecture are among his hobbies and he has been doing research on Pasadena's golden age of building for over 20 years.
John lives with his wife in Bungalow Heaven in a 1914 "Japo-Swiss" bungalow and he has provided the research for the Bungalow Heaven Tour every year since it began. He was also a signature gatherer during the original formation of the landmark district and served a number of years as the neighborhood representative on the Historic Preservation Commission.
John began his survey of Craftsman Era houses in 1991 and has been refining and adding to it ever since. It is primarily based on building permits, so it provides a complete picture of building within the city limits during the 1904-1918 period when the Arts and Crafts
movement was at its peak. One advantage of the list is that searches for an owner, contractor, or architect can be easily generated, helping people to trace the "relatives" of their house.
With John's permission, the information published on our website has been extracted from his larger survey of 1904-18 Pasadena houses, augmented by data from his list of 1919 houses.
You may inquire about additional information from the list by emailing John at:
